Born as Ramakrishna Chatopdhay, he went on to become a Hindu mystic, as we all know as Shree Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He was a strict believer in Advsita Vedanta and worshipper of Maha Kali in West Bengal. He had an entire nation following his preachings. Not only Hindus, but people of other religions followed him too. He began as a priest in one of the most famous and revered temples in India that is the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple in Kolkata. He was quite a devoted priest with intense devotional practices, which led him to experience many spiritual visions! He was initiated into Sanyasa in 1865. People from all walks of life were ardent followers. He founded Shree Ramakrishna Mission, which is prevalent even to this day. One of his best disciples, Swami Vivekananda, took the preachings to the Western countries as well and popularized his teachings. Let us take a moment to remember and pay our respects to one of the greatest monks; Shree Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, as the 18th of February, is celebrated as his birth anniversary.
