One of the most marveled and constant companions, radio continues to play a vital role in communication. Dating back to the early 19th century, when the radio went on air using the sound waves in the given bandwidth, entered our country in the early 20th century. In spite of the advent of smartphones, television, and other electronic media, it is astounding to say the humble radio still regains its Numero Uno position. It was widely used in the 2nd World War to send messages by the army and to warn people of the impending aerial ombings!
Our prime minister, Shri Narendra Modiji, addresses all school going children in the program 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' and 'Man Ki Baath.' Radio is one medium that has a fabulous outreach, even in the remotest village! One of the simple joys in life is to suddenly listen to your favorite song played on the radio.
Guglielmo Macaroni carried out the first radio transmission in 1895. The first radio station in India was named AKASHVANI, which was later called All India Radio; AIR. Our country alone has 415 radio stations in 23 languages and 146 dialects. Phew! Isn't this whopping?
