To see colorful and vibrant kites with long fluttering tails dotting the skyline makes a spectacular picture. As the 8th of February is celebrated as National Kites Flying Day, it is interesting to know the antecedents of kites.
It was every child’s dream and fantasy to fly kites and see them soar in the skies, especially during important festivals like Dusshera. It is still prevalent in Gujrat as families get together to fly kites. Competitions are also held as they become a pastime for family get-togethers.
Chinese made huge kites in the early times, and they were used in spying!! They were made using bamboo, dry leaves, and silk to make them air borne. Messages were written and  sent to the gods. Nowadays,  huge cutouts in the shape of flaming dragons are flown, much to the delight of the onlookers.
Nevertheless, kite flying is a great hobby to pursue if one is staying in hilly or windy regions. Go on, fly a kite as this us the best time to fly one!!
